Invisalign - Why Do You Need Them?

One of the biggest dental problems that many people face is dental malocclusion. Millions of Americans seek orthodontic attention every year to straighten out their misaligned teeth. Smile City Dental has an advanced solution to this problem, which is comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and highly effective. We are proud to present to you, Invisalign!

Invisalign is a removable aligner that’s made up of clear dental-grade plastic material. It is custom fabricated according to the contour of the patient’s teeth and fits comfortably on them. If you’re looking for a metal-free orthodontic solution to get the beautiful smile that you’ve always dreamt of, Invisalign is the one for you!

Why should you choose Invisalign?

  • Since Invisalign is made from a transparent material, it is hardly noticeable. People will not be able to easily find out that you’re getting your teeth straightened out.
  • They are removable, unlike braces, which are fixed. You won’t be interrupted while eating your favorite dishes or while brushing the teeth.
  • They are very safe. Since they are metal-free and do not contain sharp edges or hard brackets, the chances of getting hurt are next to none.
  • The technology used for Invisalign is highly advanced and lets your Dr. Kossi track the changes in the alignment of your teeth. This way, you can make sure your teeth are moving in the right way to their desired positions.

Are you the right candidate for Invisalign?

The causes of misalignment differ from person to person. The most common causes are genetics, improper growth of the jawbone, thumb-sucking as a child, the drifting of teeth after the extraction of a tooth, among others. Dr. Kossi would carefully examine your condition and determine how best it can be dealt with.

Invisalign is the perfect orthodontic choice for both teenagers and adults. Patients who suffer from various malocclusion issues such as open bite, closed bite, crossbite, overbite, underbite, etc. will benefit from it. Teens would love it as they won’t be revealing to their friends about the treatment, which would prevent a whole lot of embarrassment.

What is the treatment procedure?

We would start the treatment procedure by taking X-rays of your teeth to determine the exact positioning of the teeth and the jawbone. 3D scanning may also be recommended to provide the necessary views of the teeth and the extent of misalignment. The exact dimensions and the contour of the aligner will be sent to a laboratory for manufacturing the aligners. They will be fabricated using a process of high precision so that they fit perfectly and gently move the teeth to their desired positions.

During the treatment, the aligners will have to be worn every day for an approximate 20 - 22 hours a day. They must be removed only while consuming food and beverages, brushing and flossing the teeth and when you really have to remove them, such as while attending a party. A follow-up visit to our office every 2 weeks or a month would be necessary for us to track the movement of the teeth and to give you the new set of aligners. The treatment period would vary from 6 months to a year, depending on the severity of the malocclusion. Sometimes, a retainer would be recommended to prevent the teeth from moving back to their positions.
